SugarSync Review

SugarSync-logoSugarSync came into the industry in 2008 and has since become one of the top cloud storage options available for both business and personal use. They have been able to make a name for themselves in a crowded industry due to the simplicity and overall reliability of what they offer as well as the fact that they allow users to access and store files across multiple devices.

Features & Benefits

The features and benefits provided by SugarSync have allowed them to separate themselves from many of the mid-tier cloud storage options that are out there. They have really emphasized features that allow businesses to easily collaborate across just about any device, making the convenience of their services as good as anybody in the industry.

Here is a deeper look into some of the main features and benefits that SugarSync provides to users:

Probably the biggest reason that SugarSync has become such a popular option for cloud storage is because of its ease-of-use. While many other storage options in the industry can take quite a bit of time to get used to, these guys really emphasize simplicity throughout every part of their storage options.

Once downloaded, uploading your folders is as easy as a right-click. Both PC Mag and Bloomberg have raved about its convenience and just how simple it is to sync folders as well. Overall, they really set themselves apart from other options in the industry for this reason.

Obviously security is a huge concern for any user looking for a cloud storage service. SugarSync has you covered on this end as well. They offer bank-level security and allow you to transfer files using TLS and 256-bit AES encryption. While just about all cloud storage servers emphasize having a secure network, SugarSync is certainly at the top of the class in this aspect.

Access Across Multiple Devices

One of the biggest knocks with a lot of cloud storage options is that it is very difficult to access your files across multiple devices. While titans of the industry like Google do have an app for accessing your folders anywhere, their mobile app is constantly breaking down and can be very frustrating to use.

SugarSync, on the other hand, has gone out of their way to emphasize creating a high level app that is both easy-to-use and reliable. Whether you want to go through a business presentation through your phone or need quick access to information, they have got you covered all the way around.SygarSync_online_backup

Files Backed Up Automatically

Another cool feature with SugarSync is that files are automatically and continuously backed up. A lot of times it can be difficult to remember whether or not you have backed up your files and this can cause a minor case of paranoia if you have some fears over servers going down. SugarSync has systems in place to continually back up all files and folders that are uploaded through their servers.

Yet another benefit related to files being backed up automatically is that, if you happen to accidentally delete a part of an important document, you have access to the last five versions of that particular document. This can be a lifesaver for many business owners.

Sharing & Collaboration Options

While just about every cloud storage service offers elements for collaboration, many of them can be very difficult to work within. SugarSync has also emphasized this as one of their main features to make sure that users are able to work seamlessly with team members, colleagues, and business partners.

Compatible With Many Different Services & Software

An interesting aspect of working through SugarSync is that you are able to customize your experience with the integration of several different well-known services and software. Their App Showcase features the ability to integrate options like Genius Scan, Cumulo, BoxCryptor, NeroKwik, Xendo, and many other high-profile options. Many of these apps can make working through SugarSync even easier than it already is.

Customer Support

The customer support offered by SugarSync is mainly catered towards self-help articles and a strong resource center. They do not offer phone assistance unless you purchase one of their more expensive plans, although they do provide the customary ticket support and live chat options. Response times for their main support options can be a bit long, although it does seem as if their customer support team is very knowledgeable and helpful once you do get in touch with them.

As far as the support center goes, they make it fairly easy for you to perform quick and easy searches to find what you are looking for. And, when you do find what you are looking for, most of their how-tos and guides are extremely in-depth. While it certainly would be nice if they had faster response times and phone call assistance across all plans, the overall quality of their customer support seems to be sufficient.

One of the few disappointing things about SugarSync is that they do not have a plan for unlimited storage. While you are able to customize a plan to suit the unique needs of your business, they do not have a plan listed if your company is so large that you feel unlimited storage is needed.

There have been a few users that have complained about the fact that SugarSync prices are a bit above the industry average. At the end of the day, however, it is easy to see why their prices are a bit higher than most. The fact that they are reliable, easy-to-use, and extremely secure are just a few of the main reasons for this.

Another slight disadvantage of going with SugarSync is that they do not allow for files larger than 300MB to be uploaded through their site. While this would be an extremely large file, it is important to note that this could be a deal breaker for you if you do happen to download files that are over 300MB in size.

SugarSync offers four main plans for users to choose from that include 100GB, 250GB, 500GB, and 1000GB storage. The 100GB plan comes in at a very affordable $7.49/month while the 250GB plan, which is the most popular option, will set you back $9.99/month. The 500GB plan is a reasonable $24.99/month. Unfortunately the 100GB, 250GB, and 500GB plans can only be accessed through a single account.

If you want multiple users to have access to a single account, you will have to go with the 1000GB plan that comes in at $55/month for up to three users. You can give up to ten users access with the plan, although it will cost you a significant amount more per month. They also give you the option to have their team create a customized plan catered to your needs. It should be noted that both the 1000GB and customized plans feature live phone support and admin control.

Sugar Sync really sucks. The customer support is worse than bad. They never answer questions or address the issue, but instead send you canned replies you can find yourself. As backup, you better hope you never need to restore your hard drive. It could literally take days to download 10 gigs of data. Super slow – slower than you imagine. I have used this product for years and never needed the back ups till I needed them, and then i discovered they were not really access in a meaningful way. Complaints do nothing.
